Goodways-to-God

I felt I would like to share the encouragement that I have received, from reading a book, that was written in the early 70s, entitled "Two feet for God", this was a book written to celebrate 100 years of the Christian colportage Association, the fore runner of "Home Evangelism" and now "OutreachUK"
This association was founded on February 24,1874.

I was amazed to read that after just 10 years, the Association had 100 evangelists, had sold 146,000
Bibles, and handed out or sold around 3 million books tracts etc.

In these days of Internet, mobile phones and dozens of other means of communication, I find it amazing that way back then in 1884 such a vast amount of Christian literature had been giving out, can we claim that now?
Let's not fool ourselves, sin and crime, poverty etc were just as rife then as now, if not, even more so.
We seem to think we are the only people, to face such situations as we do, and yet throughout history it has been the same. This book has impacted in me the need to spread the great news of Jesus Christ, even more, I see this as a great encouragement, and a wake up call NOT to let this country become a Spiritual desert!

Here are just a few quotes,
One of the early evangelists writing in 1878, made this report, met two men in a lane eating their lunch, taking a place beside them, one asked "what is your regiment?" "My regiment? I am a volunteer and my captain's name is Jesus" Opening my Bible I read to them, with permission, from 2 Corinthians 10 verse 4, "for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty, through God, to the pulling down of strongholds." Asking if I could supply them with the Bible, I was able to sell them a copy for sixpence, the man who asked for the Bible promise to read the word, confessing that he had not seen or read a Bible for 10 years! "May I pray for you" I asked and they consented. We knelt in silence, and with reverence, while I commended them both to our Saviour, their tears were evident when I left them ... I had sown the good seed, and would wait upon the Lord for the harvest.

The Colporteur's report ends: " I called to see the mother, who wept for joy as we talked about her daughter's change of heart and of conduct. I believe that the Holy spirit is striving with other young lives in the same family. I know God is blessing boys and girls, especially the boy who saved up 40 farthings, in order that he might buy for himself a tenpenny Bible" these are signs that God's will was being obeyed in a growing faithful ministry.
I say "More Lord More" Amen!
