GRACE!— what does this word mean to you? A girls name perhaps?
Something we say before eating? Even a style of movement or dance?
Grace to God means far, far more, we have trivialised this word, the true power and meaning of the word grace, in God’s sight means freedom to accept his love, his forgiveness, for all our shortcomings. The nearest in the dictionary, to God’s meaning says “Grace is used in expressions such as,a days grace or a months grace, to say that you are allowed that amount of extra time before you have to finish something.” Another version says “in Christianity, and some other religions, grace, means the kindness that God shows to people because he loves them. It was only by the grace of God that no one died.” In today’s society, we use such words as wicked, to mean that’s really good, where in fact we know it means, something that is nasty, in fact even evil. Many people today use the word cool to mean something is very acceptable, modern, good, where in fact we know, that it really means, something that is not warm. Now I’m not saying it’s wrong for today’s generation, to use words in whichever way they want, but we do need to remember the true and original meaning of the words. This world we live in, is full of selfishness, pride, corruption, etc, but despite all of our wrongdoings, and bad behaviour, God, still loves us. God wants relationship with us, He pours out His love, and His forgiveness, when we recognise our shortcomings, and do our best to repent, in other words to turn away from, those things that we know to be wrong.
If like me you know in your heart, that God loves you, then it is much easier to accept, His grace, and His mercies, God wants to restore His creation, and bring His people back to Him. The 10 Commandments are there, to help us to live a better and more fulfilled life, not as a rule book, or even a stick to beat us with, but to show God’s love for us, so that we might show others that same love. I believe, the Bible is God’s word to us, not a rulebook, but a love story to each and everyone of us, because remember he created us, not to bring us harm, but so that we might live a more purposeful life.
